Shillong, Aug. 7 -- The Meghalaya Cabinet today approved a policy to regulate the renting of motorcycles and vehicles to tourists to ensure their safety.



Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said the policy was framed to ensure tourists' safety and proper sector regulation.



"As you are aware, many tourists come to our state and rent vehicles from private individuals. Till date, there has not been a mechanism to regulate the sector or ensure the overall safety of the tourists," he said.



Therefore, Sangma said the government has formulated a policy aimed at regulating such rental services which would be for two wheelers and also four-wheelers.
