Tura, April 6 -- Reiterating its commitment to balancing the interests of Meghalaya's tribal population in the plain belt areas of the Garo Hills, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stressed the need to conduct the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to weed out illegal Bangladeshi migrants from the State's electoral rolls.

"The tribal population has been largely marginalised in the plains of the Garo Hills over the years due to migration and past political decisions," Meghalaya BJP vice-president Bernard N. Marak said on Monday.

The BJP is a minor ally in the National People's Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA).
