Shillong, Jan. 26 -- Meghalaya has activated Village Defence Parties (VDPs) to bolster security along the international border that it shares with Bangladesh, signalling a sharper focus on grassroots vigilance amid evolving security challenges, Governor C.H. Vijayashankar said on Monday.
"We are also committed to securing the India-Bangladesh border and are monitoring the situation, in close coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF)," Vijayshankar said during the course of his Republic Day address at Polo grounds in Shillong.
He said the government has directed Deputy Commissioner to activate the VDPs to improve security around the international borders.
