Kolhapur, May 17 -- Maharashtra and District Guardian Minister Prakash Abitkar asserted on Saturday that the state government is strongly opposed to increasing the height of Almatti Dam and said a meeting in this regard with be held with the state Water Resources Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil on May 21.
In a press release issued here on eve of proposed 'Chakka Jam' agitation by all-party action committee against increasing the height of Almatti dam, he said that water experts have concluded that the Almatti Dam in Karnataka is responsible for the floods in Kolhapur and Sangli districts.
