Bengaluru, Feb. 20 -- The BJP on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Karnataka government, alleging that it is imposing restrictions on the media inside the Vidhana Soudha and drew parallels with the Emergency imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975.

In a strongly worded statement, the BJP said that during the 1975 Emergency, the media was silenced and democratic institutions were curtailed, and claimed that a similar "dark chapter" is being repeated in Karnataka under the leadership of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

Alleging that restrictions have been placed on journalists on the premises of Vidhana Soudha, the statement said that limiting media access amounts to curbing transparency and weakening democratic accountability....
