New Delhi, March 29 -- Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has proposed a series of amendments to the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957, focusing on decriminalising minor civic offences and making regulations more citizen-friendly.
According to the official press release issued, the proposed changes seek to replace punitive enforcement mechanisms with a compliance-oriented approach.
Several minor and technical violations that previously attracted criminal prosecution, including fines and even imprisonment, are set to be rationalised.
Officials stated that such offences will no longer lead to criminal proceedings, there by reducing harassment, litigation, and social stigma.
