Ranchi, Feb. 13 -- Leader of Opposition and former Jharkhand Chief Minister Babulal Marandi on Friday launched a sharp attack on the state government over the appointment of the Director General of Police (DGP), asserting that the selection must be made strictly from the list approved by the union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

Marandi said that following the latest order of the Supreme Court of India, it has been made clear that the DGP must be appointed within one month from the UPSC-approved panel in accordance with the landmark Prakash Singh vs union of India judgment.

He stated that the Jharkhand government would now have to follow the procedure laid down by law.
