Imphal, Feb. 20 -- Vungzagin Valte, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Thanlon Assembly Constituency, passed away after a prolonged illness at a hospital in the national capital, family sources said. He was 61.

Valte's health had reportedly deteriorated at his home, prompting urgent medical intervention. On February 8, Manipur Chief Minister, Yumnam Khemchand Singh personally monitored arrangements to shift the veteran legislator for advanced treatment. Valte was brought to Bir Tikendrajit International Airport, Imphal accompanied by two BJP MLAs and a team of doctors from Imphal, before being airlifted to New Delhi. The Chief Minister met him at the airport prior to his departure.
