Kolkata, March 29 -- A man allegedly hacked his wife to death in front of their minor daughter in south east Kolkata early on Sunday, in a case suspected to be rooted in prolonged domestic discord and financial disputes, police said.

The incident happened in the Bosepukur locality under Kasba police station.

The accused, identified as Binod Singh, was caught by locals while attempting to flee and later handed over to the police.

Locals claimed that Singh, who allegedly had a history of returning home in an inebriated state, frequently demanded money from his wife, Swapna Singh, and often resorted to violence when his demands were not met.
