Bhandara, March 19 -- A man was killed in a tiger attack in Maharashtra's Bhandara district on the occasion of Gudi Padwa on Thursday, officials said.

The deceased was identified as Vasant Ganpat Meshram (50), a resident of Bampewada village in Sakoli taluka.

He had gone to a nearby forest in the morning to collect mahua flowers when the incident occurred.

According to preliminary information, the tiger attacked Meshram between 8 am and 9 am while he was inside the forest, leading to his death on the spot.

When Meshram did not return home till noon, his family members and villagers launched a search and later found his body in the forest.

The police and officials of the Forest Development Corporation were alerted and rushed to the spot...
