Kolkata, Jan. 25 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission of India (ECI) on the occasion of National Voters' Day on Sunday, accusing it of acting at the behest of the BJP and systematically denying people their democratic rights.
In a strongly worded statement, Banerjee said celebrating National Voters' Day had become a "tragic farce" as the Commission was, according to her, busy "snatching away people's voting rights."Alleging that the ECI was functioning as "His Master's Voice," Banerjee said she was deeply distressed and disturbed by its conduct.
