Shimla, Feb. 7 -- A serious case of alleged tampering with criminal records has come to light in Shimla district, where preliminary investigations suggest that files related to 71 grave criminal cases were reportedly suppressed for years at the Boileauganj police station.
The issue surfaced recently after a police official lodged a complaint regarding the denial of his promotional benefits. On the directions of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, the state informed the court that 71 case files were untraceable. These included records linked to the promotion of Rajinder Bhan, who recently retired from the Shimla Superintendent of Police (SP) headquarters during the BJP government's tenure.
