Mumbai, Jan. 22 -- The Maharashtra government will introduce a separate and comprehensive law to impose a complete ban on gutkha and similar prohibited food products in the state, following the model of Gujarat's prohibition law, Food and Drug Administration Minister Narhari Zirwal said on Thursday.
Chairing a review meeting at Mantralaya to assess enforcement of laws against gutkha and banned food items, Zirwal directed officials to conduct a detailed study, prepare the necessary proposal and draft the legislation.
The proposed law is expected to be presented during the upcoming Budget Session of the state legislature.
