Mumbai, Feb. 13 -- In a significant development for Maharashtra, the state government has received the official certificate declaring 12 forts associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, an official said on Friday.

The sites under the common inscription 'Maratha Military Landscapes of India' got recognised last year as India's 44th World Heritage Site.

The 12 sites are Salher Fort, Shivneri Fort, Lohgad Fort, Khanderi Fort, Raigad Fort, Rajgad Fort, Pratapgad Fort, Suvarnadurg Fort, Panhala Fort, Vijaydurg Fort and Sindhudurg Fort in Maharashtra, along with Gingee Fort in Tamil Nadu.
