Mumbai, April 27 -- Following the direction of the Bombay high court, the Maharashtra police has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate alleged encounter of Akshay Shinde, prime accused in Badlapur sexual assault case, officials confirmed here on Sunday.
A meeting in this connection was held on Saturday at the Mumbai Police Commissioner's office, chaired by Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Lakhmi Gautam.
The SIT will be led by Lakhmi Gautam and will include Additional CP of the Crime Branch Shashi Kumar Meena, DCP Dutta Nalawade and several Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors from the Crime Branch.
SIT would soon commence a detailed investigation into the matter.
