Mumbai, March 28 -- Maharashtra Fisheries and Ports Minister Nitesh Rane today announced that an ''artificial intelligence (AI) project'' will be launched in Sindhudurg district of the state to improve mango and cashew cultivation.

The pilot project will cover 400 farmers, 200 mango growers and 200 cashew growers. The first step is digitising farms by recording basic details such as farmer names, phone numbers and village information. Depending on the results, the scheme will be extended to more cultivators.

The proposal was presented by experts from ADT Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Baramati, in the presence of agricultural scientists and officials, including representatives from Dr Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth.
