Mumbai, July 20 -- A Special NIA Court here rejected an interim bail plea moved by terror accused Shamil Nachan, son of banned SIMI activist Saquib Nachan, seeking a court nod to allow him to perform various rituals after the death of his father, who died recently while in the custody of Tihar Jail in Delhi.

While rejecting the plea, the court observed that prayers can be offered from anywhere and personal presence at the cemetery is not necessary.

Shamil had approached the special court seeking interim bail for 20 days to perform various rituals after his father's death.

Shamil's lawyers, Mobin Solkar and Tahira Qureshi, had contended that as per Muslim rituals, Quran Khwani has to be arranged. During the period of 20 days after death, ...
