Nagpur, April 26 -- Protests erupted in Nagpur today against Bageshwar Dham's Dhirendra Krishna Shastri over his alleged remarks on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, with activists of the Sambhaji Brigade and Maratha Seva Sangh staging demonstrations and demanding his arrest.

The protests were triggered by a statement made by Shastri during a recent programme in Nagpur, where he reportedly claimed that Shivaji Maharaj, after getting tired of continuous battles, had approached Samarth Ramdas Swami and offered to hand over the kingdom to him.

Terming the remarks as "insulting" and historically incorrect, protesters gathered at Chhatrapati Chowk here in the morning, raising slogans and burning posters of Shastri.
