Nagpur, Dec. 19 -- Authorities have launched an investigation after a village in Maharashtra's Yavatmal district, with a population of barely 1,500, reported an astonishing 27,398 delayed birth registrations within a span of three months, raising serious concerns of possible cyber fraud, officials said today.
The irregularity was detected during a vigilance exercise conducted by the Health department, according to a statement issued by the district information officer.
The scrutiny followed a recent directive from the Maharashtra government to annul illegal and delayed birth and death registrations. As part of this drive, records between September and November were examined, officials said.
