Varanasi, Feb. 6 -- Preparations for the Maha Shivratri festival at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Dham began on Friday with the ritualistic worship of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles. Prayers were offered to the deity for the successful and uninterrupted completion of the festival.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust, Vishwa Bhushan Mishra, performed the Ganesh Puja amidst Vedic chants. Lord Ganesha was offered clothes, flowers, durva grass, garlands, and food. This was followed by devotional hymns and aarti.
