Pune, Jan. 25 -- Incidents of crimes against women have seen a sharp rise in Maharashtra over the past few months, and the state government has failed to take effective measures to ensure women's safety, alleged All India Mahila Congress General Secretary and Maharashtra in-charge Shilpi Arora today.

Speaking at the extended executive committee meeting of the Maharashtra Pradesh Mahila Congress held at the Congress Bhavan here, Ms Arora said that despite serious crimes such as rape and molestation, strict action is not being taken against the accused, creating a deeply alarming situation regarding women's safety in the state.
