Mumbai, Aug. 12 -- The Maharashtra Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday, approved the recruitment of around 15,000 police personnel in the state police force.

The decision brings relief to candidates who had been anxious as the process faced repeated delays in recent months.

With the cabinet's nod, the recruitment drive is now expected to move forward quickly.

It may be recalled that during the monsoon session of the Assembly, Fadnavis had announced that a recruitment drive for the police department is underway.

The initiative is part of a 150-day programme aimed at restructuring the police department, updating rules, ensuring compassionate appointments, and identifying vacancies.
