Mumbai, March 25 -- Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis introduced in the State Assembly a Bill to amend the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to incorporate two key provisions of the Shakti Act.

Presenting the bill, he said the Assembly had earlier passed the Shakti Act unanimously and forwarded it to the union Government. At that time, the Centre had indicated that implementing the Act alongside the then-upcoming BNS could result in legal overlap and conflict.

After the BNS came into force, incorporating most of the provisions of the Shakti Act, the State Government set up a committee under the Director General of Police to review and identify any provision that had not been included in the central legislation. According to the committee's fin...
