Mumbai, Aug. 4 -- Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Harshavardhan Sapkal today demanded action against Pune police for forcibly entering the house of three young women, illegally detaining them, allegedly hurling casteist slurs at them and assaulting them.

"The police machinery in the state is becoming more of a hindrance than a help. Criminals roam free while the police display high-handedness towards ordinary citizens," he said.

"Why is there hesitation in filing a case against the police officers responsible? Cases must be filed under the Atrocities Act and the accused officers must be arrested immediately," demanded Sapkal.
