Jerusalem, Feb. 1 -- Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv announced on Saturday evening the appointment of Ronny Deila as head coach until the end of the season.
The 50-year-old Norwegian replaces Serbia's Zarko Lazetic, who was dismissed following Maccabi's defeat to bitter city rival Hapoel Tel Aviv.
The decision comes during a disappointing campaign for Maccabi, which saw the club fall out of contention for the league title and finish last in the Europa League's 36-team league phase.
Deila's major coaching achievements include winning the Norwegian championship with Stromsgodset in 2013, securing back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles with Celtic in 2015 and 2016, and lifting the MLS Cup with New York City FC in 2021.
