Chandigarh, March 10 -- Security agencies in Ludhiana were shifted into high gear on Tuesday morning after an anonymous email threatened to trigger bomb blasts at several prominent schools and on board trains.

The threatening communication, which also contained direct references to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, specified a series of timed explosions, claiming that blasts would occur in schools at 1:11 PM and in trains starting at 3:11 PM. The email further alleged that these actions were a response to "fake police encounters" in the state.

Following the receipt of the threat, panic gripped the administrations of the targeted institutions, leading to the immediate closure of DAV Public School and KVM School.
