New Delhi, Dec. 12 -- The Lok Sabha on Thursday approved an extension for the parliamentary committee tasked with reviewing the legislative proposals aimed at implementing simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies.

The committee, originally mandated to submit its report by the first day of the last week of the ongoing Winter Session, will now continue its work until the first day of the last week of the 2026 Budget Session.

Chairman of the Joint Committee on the Constitution (129th Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, P P Chaudhary, moved the motion for the extension, which was adopted through a voice vote in the Lok Sabha.
