Varanasi, Jan. 30 -- The Banaras Literature Festival-4 was inaugurated on Friday by Padma Bhushan awardee and renowned actor Anupam Kher at Hotel Taj in Nadesar by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

Kher was deeply moved by the theatrical performance presented by school children during the inaugural session.

He said the performance took him back to his school days. Sharing a memory of his first play, he recounted that he was chosen for the role of Prithviraj Chauhan, while the role of Jaichand went to Nandu, the milkman's son.

"My only 'qualification' for being chosen was that I was fair and thin," he said, recalling with laughter the innocent logic that laid the first stepping stone of his acting career.
