Agartala, Feb. 24 -- Ratan Debbarma has been sentenced to life by the Additional District & Sessions Judge of Tripura's Khowai District for the murder of his wife in 1996.
The victim, Chabi Rani Debbarma (25), was tragically murdered by her husband at her elder sister's residence in Mudibari, Khowai, during the early hours of September 25, 1996. An axe was used for commiting the crime.
This case remained unsolved for 30 years before the court finally reached a decision. The successful conviction was credited to the diligent work of then Sub Inspector Pranab Das of Khowai Police Station, who is currently serving as Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic).
