Srinagar, Oct. 2 -- Ladakh's tourism industry, the backbone of its economy, has suffered a major blow due to last week's violence in Leh, which resulted in four deaths and over 100 injuries.
Hoteliers in Leh confirmed the unrest has triggered several cancellations, dampening the region's otherwise thriving tourist season.
The disturbances, which included clashes and the detention of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act (NSA), forced authorities to impose a curfew across Leh. Although the curfew has been relaxed since September 30, police and central armed police forces continue to patrol the streets.
