New Delhi, Feb. 12 -- Legendary newsreader Sarla Maheshwari breathed her last Thursday morning in Delhi. She was 71.
Maheshwari was known for her long association with Doordarshan and was noticed for her calm voice and poised news delivery on Doordarshan for many decades.
Her last rites will be held at Nigam Bodh Ghat in Delhi at 4 pm today, family sources informed.
A PhD in Hindi, she joined Doordarshan as a news announcer in 1976 and had been associated with the national broadcaster throughout, except for a brief period of two years, when she worked as a news reader for the BBC in London.
