Shimla, April 21 -- Judicial work at the Himachal Pradesh High Court came to a standstill on Monday as thousands of advocates boycotted court proceedings and staged a protest march in Shimla after a police jawan assaulted an advocate in public view, sparking outrage across the legal community.

The situation eased later in the day after the police jawan was suspended.

The Shimla Bar Association, along with members of the Himachal Pradesh High Court Bar, called off their protest after the errant officer was suspended and senior police officials assured further inquiry.
