Mumbai, April 22 -- L&T Energy GreenTech Ltd (LTEGL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro, announced here on Wednesday that it has signed a long-term supply agreement with Japan's Itochu Corporation to deliver 300,000 (3 lakh) tonnes per annum (TPA) of green ammonia on a captive take-or-pay basis.
Green ammonia is emerging as a viable alternative marine fuel, though large-scale adoption hinges on reliable supply and long-term contracts that can support capital-intensive projects. It is produced by combining hydrogen, generated by splitting water with renewable energy, with nitrogen separated from the air. The green ammonia will be produced at Kandla in Gujarat, by LTEGL.
