Kolkata, Feb. 19 -- In a significant political development ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections, dissident BJP MLA from the hills, Vishnuprasad Sharma, on Thursday joined the ruling All India Trinamool Congress.
Sharma formally switched sides at Trinamool Bhavan in Kolkata, where he took the party flag in the presence of senior leaders Shashi Panja and Bratya Basu.
The Kurseong MLA had been at odds with the Bharatiya Janata Party for nearly two years and had repeatedly voiced his dissatisfaction with the party leadership.
His rift with the BJP deepened after the party re-nominated Raju Bista as its candidate from Darjeeling in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
