Bengaluru, Jan. 10 -- JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, who is also the minister in the central government, on Saturday accused the Congress of "disowning its own legacy" by opposing rural employment schemes that were conceived and implemented during the UPA government's tenure, and said welfare programmes for the poor were being turned into political battlegrounds.

Kumaraswamy said political discourse had declined to the point where even schemes aimed at strengthening rural livelihoods were branded anti-people for convenience.
