Kolkata, Dec. 16 -- Cracking the whip three days after the Lionel Messi show fiasco, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday relieved Sports Minister Aroop Biswas - considered one of her closest confidantes - of the portfolio, while top IPS and IAS officers were slapped with showcause notices.
The top officers including Director General of Police Rajeev Kumar, another of Banerjee's key aides, have been asked to give explanations within 24 hours for the alleged lapses that led to the chaos at the Vivekananda YuvaBharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) last Saturday.
