Bhubaneswar, May 5 -- In a landmark achievement for advanced cardiac care in Odisha, doctors at the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) successfully performed a highly complex surgery correcting five critical heart defects in a single high-risk operation on a 32-year-old patient.

The rare procedure, considered the first of its kind in the state, was carried out at the KIMS Super Speciality Hospital by an expert team led by renowned cardiac surgeon Dr. Nimai Charan Behera.

The surgery involved a Bentall procedure, mitral valve replacement, tricuspid valve repair, and atrial septal defect (ASD) closure-addressing five life-threatening cardiac complications simultaneously.
