Kochi, Jan. 27 -- Rear Admiral Prakash Gopalan today assumed charge as the Chief of Staff of the Southern Naval Command succeeding Rear Admiral Upal Kundu.
An alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy, Rear Admiral Gopalan was commissioned into the Indian Navy on July 1, 1993. A specialist in Navigation and Direction, he has commanded several frontline naval units, including IN TRV-72, INS Kora, INS Mysore and INS Mumbai.
With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, the Flag Officer has held a range of key operational and staff appointments. These include serving as Defence Advisor at the High Commission of India in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and as Fleet Operations Officer of the Eastern Fleet.
