Thiruvananthapuram, March 15 -- The Election Commission of India on Sunday announced the schedule for the Assembly elections in Kerala, with polling set to be held on April 9 and the counting of votes scheduled for May 4.

With the election process commencing just ahead of the Vishu festival, political fronts in the state now have very limited time left for campaigning. As a result, parties have come under pressure to finalise and announce their candidates at the earliest.

According to election authorities, Kerala has a total of 2.70 crore voters, including 1,571 voters who are above 100 years of age. The state has 30,471 polling stations, while about 4.24 lakh new voters have been added to the electoral roll this time.
