Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 1 -- Kerala is taking a major step towards becoming a cervical cancer-free state by introducing HPV vaccination for girl students, Health Minister Veena George announced today.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the pilot phase of the initiative at Koothuparamba Taluk Hospital, Kannur, on November 3 at 10:30 am.

Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among women in India and a major cause of cancer-related deaths. The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine is globally recognised as a safe and effective method to prevent cervical cancer.

"To protect the younger generation, the State Government has taken a proactive stance in introducing the vaccine for adolescent girls," the Minister said.
