Kottayam, Dec. 24 -- Panic gripped patients and attendants at Ward 18 of the Government Medical College Hospital at Kottayam in Kerala late on Tuesday night after floor tiles suddenly burst with a loud explosion-like sound.
The incident occurred around 10 pm in the ENT ward on the second floor, where nearly 20 patients and bystanders were present. Several tiles reportedly cracked and popped abruptly, creating fear that part of the building had collapsed.
Alarmed by the noise, patients and their relatives rushed out of the ward. Hospital security staff intervened promptly and shifted those inside to safer locations, including the outpatient block.
