Bengaluru, Jan. 23 -- The Karnataka High Court on Friday lifted the ban on bike taxi services in the state, holding that motorcycles fall within the definition of "transport vehicles" under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, and therefore cannot be excluded from being granted taxi permits merely because of their classification.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice CM Joshi allowed appeals filed by cab aggregators, including ANI Technologies Pvt Ltd (Ola), Uber India Systems and Rapido, setting aside an April 2, 2025, single-judge order that had directed bike taxi operations in Karnataka to be halted until the State framed specific rules.
