Shivamogga, Feb. 2 -- The BJP on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Congress-led Karnataka government, accusing it of weaponising the Hate Speech Bill to suppress the opposition and intimidate Hindu activists, even before the law has received gubernatorial assent.
Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa alleged that the Siddaramaiah government rushed the controversial Hate Speech Bill through the Belagavi winter session without allowing discussion, revealing its "authoritarian intent" to silence dissenting voices.
Speaking to the media in Shivamogga, Vijayendra said the Bill poses a serious threat to democratic freedoms and is already being used on the ground to instil fear.
