Hyderabad, Nov. 14 -- The Congress has opened up an early lead in the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election, pulling ahead by 2,995 votes after two rounds of counting on Friday.
In the first round, BJP candidate Lankala Deepak Reddy secured 2,167 votes, Congress candidate Naveen Yadav polled 8,911, and BRS nominee Maganti Sunitha Gopinath got 8,864 votes - giving the Congress a narrow lead of 47 votes.
After the second round, Naveen Yadav extended his margin. So far, he has garnered 17874 votes, while Maganti Sunitha has polled 14879. BJP's Deepak Reddy has received 3474 votes. With this, the Congress lead stands at 2,995 votes over the BRS candidate.
