New Delhi, March 1 -- Minister for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh on Sunday inaugurated a new biotechnology research facility at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) in Thiruvananthapuram aimed at strengthening drug discovery and genomics research.

The facility, named the Central Facility for Recombinant Cells and Sensors, is expected to support research in medical and agricultural genomics and to enable advanced screening for drug development.

During the event, Singh also announced the establishment of a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility at the institute. GMP facilities provide controlled environments required for the safe and standardised production of pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceutical products.
