Ranchi, Nov. 26 -- The Jharkhand High Court has adopted a stern stance against the rampant and irregular sale of cough syrups and narcotic medicines across the state, particularly highlighting rising misuse among schoolchildren.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan and Justice Rajesh Shankar has directed the state government to immediately stop the sale of any cough syrup or intoxicating drug without a valid doctor's prescription.
The directive came during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by petitioner Sunil Kumar Mahato, who raised serious concerns over the widespread and unchecked sale of cough syrups in Jharkhand.
