Bengaluru, Jan. 27 -- Janata Dal (Secular) MLA Karemma G. Nayak on Tuesday told the Karnataka Legislative Assembly that she was being followed and threatened by sand mafia operatives in her Devadurga constituency, raising serious concerns over the law and order situation in the region.
Raising the issue during Question Hour, the legislator alleged that illegal sand mining along the Krishna river had become rampant and was creating an atmosphere of fear among residents. She said sand was being transported illegally without fear of action and that women were afraid to step out of their homes even during the day.
