Rome, Aug. 18 -- Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni arrived in the US to join Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his meeting with President Donald Trump today. The Italian PM had expressed positive feelings about the Alaska Summit, saying that it offered a 'glimmer of hope'.

Before her departure, her office reiterated the statement made by Rome on the Sunday meeting between PM Meloni and other European leaders ahead of their US visit.

The statement stressed "the importance of continuing to work with the United States to end the conflict and achieve a peace that ensures the sovereignty and security of Ukraine," reports The Guardian.
