Kolkata, April 21 -- Tension flared in Canning of West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district on Tuesday after an alleged attack on the convoy of Arabul Islam, a prominent leader of the Indian Secular Front (ISF), while he was on his way to campaign.
According to party sources, the incident occurred at Deuli 1 gram panchayat area, where Islam had gone to canvass for votes. Allegedly, a group of miscreants armed with bamboo and sticks intercepted his car and launched a sudden attack.
The window pane of the car was shattered in the attack, and extensive damage was inflicted on the vehicle. ISF supporters accompanying him were also allegedly assaulted.
