Shravasti, Feb. 26 -- An alleged scam worth crores of rupees has surfaced in the purchase of CCTV cameras installed under "Operation Trinetra," a program aimed at strengthening security in gram panchayats in Shravasti district of Uttar Pradesh.

An investigation has been initiated following a complaint of irregularities.

According to the complaint, CCTV cameras were installed in 397 gram panchayats in the district under the guise of village security. It is alleged that cameras, whose market price was approximately Rs 5,299 each were purchased at a rate of Rs 23,500 per camera. Allegations of misuse of government funds have been made in this regard through alleged collusion between officials and contractors.
